Teach Preschool: "Bears need exercise too!" plus 1 more |
Posted: 30 Mar 2016 04:00 AM PDT
Sleeping in a cold, dark cave for weeks at a time can make anyone stiff and sore – even a bear! No worries, our students helped their bears loosen up all those stiff muscles with a little exercise.
To make sure the bears got a good work out, the children took their bears over to our gym mat. Along the wall were photos of bears in different stretching positions the children could try… And on the mat were different games the bears could play (with the children of course)… The bears got a great workout all throughout the morning on our bear exercise mat… Our students got a pretty good workout themselves in the process of helping their bears get all warmed up… And the photos were perfect for giving the children a variety of prompts for stretching techniques… Now that the bears have had a good grooming, physical, and some exercise it is time to head on over to the portrait center to draw a photo with bear. And that is exactly what my next post will be all about so don't miss it! After a long winter's nap, the children woke up their bears, groomed them, and then made a visit to the bear health center. After all, a healthy bear is a happy bear!
Before heading off to the bear health center, we read all about baby bear check-ups with our Scholastic magazine. Did you know mama bears have their babies in their sleep and then the scientists crawl in the cave while mama bear is sleeping and give the baby bears a checkup? I didn't know that… After reading all about baby bear check ups, the children were ready to give their own bears a check up. At the bear health center the children could measure their bears… Weigh their bears (but need to make sure the scales are working first)… Treat their bears for any scratches or cuts (It seems some of our bears got pretty banged up in their caves)… Check the bear's body temperature… And give the bears any medication that might be needed… Giving a bear a good physical is a lot of work! Once the bears were all fixed up and now in good health, then they could receive a Healthy Bear certificate to hang up in their cave… Whew! It's a good thing we checked on those bears. Now they were ready to head off for a little stretching and exercising which is my very next post so stay tuned!
